When you’re on a budget, buying new clothes for your child can be difficult. Chances are good that your little one grows out of clothes in a hurry, and needs new ones regularly.

Outfitting your child in cute clothes that fit properly doesn’t have to cost a lot. There are ways you can keep your child clothed during growth spurts while sticking to your budget.

Shop Wholesale

Wholesalers will sell clothes at a discount rate, so they cost less than they would at your typical department stores. They sell the same types of clothes and brands you’d find at your local department store, but for a great deal less. Many of these stores will even let you order online.

Shop at Second-Hand Stores

While your child is going through a growth spurt, you may want to think about buying clothes from a second-hand store, such as the Salvation Army. These stores keep plenty of kids’ clothes that are in good condition in stock. When you shop at some second-hand stores, you can even bring and donate the clothes your child has outgrown and get a receipt for a tax-deductible donation.

Save on Holiday Fashions

When selecting holiday outfits for your child, you can save money by buying from discount stores. For instance, your child’s costume will be the most important item you buy at Halloween. No doubt your trick-or-treater has already picked out a character to be. Now you just have to find the best costume to fit that dream at a price you can afford. There are several discount costume stores that can fulfill your child’s Halloween fantasy at a reasonable price. You can find children and even baby costumes at these stores.

With the right strategies, you can save money on your child’s clothes.

With the wide array of reality TV shows exposing you to which fabrics, cuts, fits and colors to avoid, staying fashionable is as simple as turning on your television. Luckily, you don’t have to be scrutinized as your every fashion choice is critiqued. Others who allow themselves to be highlighted as the guinea pigs on reality TV fashion shows give you an opportunity to sit back and learn from their mistakes.

The Fashion Choices of the Unsuspecting

Oprah hosted many episodes related to fashion choices. Unsuspecting women were approached in the malls and on the streets and asked if they could be advised on their fashion choices. Ill fitting bra straps that dug into the breasts, old jeans and outdated fashions were just a few of fashion mistakes made by women who were rushing through their lives without time to heed their clothing choices.

A Fashion Self-Assessment

As you watch reality television, you can ask yourself these same questions in the privacy and comfort of your own home. Do your undergarments fit properly? Are there visible panty lines or bra strap lines? Do your jeans fit properly? Are your jeans a current cut or from decades ago? While you may not choose to buy a pair of skinny jeans as an older woman, you might choose to avoid jean cuts that are pulled too high up on your waist as was the fashion decades ago.

Whether you are watching The Bachelorette, What Not to Wear or another reality TV show, pay close attention to the fashion mistakes and triumphs of show participants to carve your own fashion path.

The term supermodel is generally used to describe a model who has achieved a high level of international fame and fortune. Such models are generally only referred to with his or her first name, as that is all is required to know who the person is on the fashion scene. The term supermodel wasn’t a popular term until what are now known as the original supermodels hit the fashion scene in the early 90s.

So who are the original supermodels? The group of original supermodels consists of Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, and the lesser known Tatjana Patitz. These five women gained fame and notoriety when they all appeared in the film clip for the George Michael song Freedom. In the film clip they walked the runway, creating an image surpassing the “top model” image they already had. This, couple with Evangelista’s famous quote, ”we don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day” fuelled the worlds interest in what we now know as the supermodel.

The original five supermodels were quickly joined by several other well-known top models that were as equally beautiful and famous. Claudia Schiffer and Kate moss became just as well known as the original five. As the years went by and the original supermodels started to age gracefully, a new wave of supermodels gradually started to drift in. Faces such as Eva Herzigova, and Helena Christensen progressed the brand of the supermodel forward into the 2000s.

These days the supermodel click consists of names such as Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks, Giselle Bundchen, and the many beautiful girls of Victoria’s Secret.

When it comes to looking put together and fashionable, many women spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on their wardrobe and looking fashionable. However, if you wish to look fashionable and still save money, there are ways to save and look great.

Many women turn to magazines and coupon clipping to save. While that is a good starting place, there are other ways to save money while still looking fashionable. Scout for sales times, such as door buster and midnight sales. Oftentimes stores will give huge discounts for those who shop at those sales. Another way is to sign up for a store’s personal sales card. They will email you coupons and sales times.

An increasingly popular trend is to search online for coupons or sites that offer coupons. Coupon sites save you the hassle of clipping, and they often give an even bigger discount to those who join their sites. You can find top designer clothing and accessories online for great percentages off at places like www.offers.com. These places give you coupons for all sorts of things and provide a great way to save money and time by purchasing with these coupons.

You can find items identical to those in style, but are much cheaper since they come from a different company. You can look almost the same as those models wearing the latest styles by copying the look of the outfit without spending hundreds on the label. Coupon sites give huge sales and savings to new members and returning members as well, and they are a great way to save.

In a world obsessed with looking good and sporting the hottest fashions when each new season rolls around, celebrities are breaking into yet another arena — fashion, of course! Serena Williams has her own line of fashionable athletic wear, as does her sister Venus. Jay-Z is known for his line called Rocawear, which has various fashions for men, women, and children. Sarah Jessica Parker had her own clothing line called “Bitten,” which sold at Steve & Barry’s chains before they became defunct. It’s hard to look around and not see a clothing line developed by a celebrity.

Fashions in the United States have changed vastly over the years, with some of them making reappearances in recent years. Celebrity fashion trends, though, have always remained popular, no matter what they consist of.

Everyone knows Beyoncé Knowles. She’s famous for being a member of Destiny’s Child, and her extremely successful solo career, with number one hits such as “Irreplaceable,” “Beautiful Liar,” and of course, “Put A Ring On It,” a song parodied in a classic skit with Justin Timberlake on Saturday Night Live. Beyoncé has her own perfume and is also part of the force behind Dereon clothing, established in the fall of 2004.

The clothing line has grown in popularity over the last few years, especially with teenagers and the younger crowds. Dereon clothing offers something for every female body shape and is one of the most popular fashion lines in the United States. From tops and bottoms, jumpsuits and sets, and jewelry and other accessories, women would be hard pressed to find something that doesn’t fit her unique sense of style.

There’s a reality TV show for everything. There’s show for cooking, weddings, losing weight and even how to use coupons. However, despite the popular nature of reality TV shows the most popular theme for reality TV is fashion. There are over a half dozen fashion reality TV shows on the air on any given day.

Here is a look at some of the most popular fashion themed reality TV shows.

America’s Next Top Model

While not directly related to fashion, America’s Next Top Model follows 15 to 20 wannabe models on their journey to become a runway model. The show will often take beginner models in turn them into high-end fashion models by the end of the show. Not only does it show the models but many of the top name designers and fashion labels are also featured on this reality TV show.

Fashion Runway

Fashion Runway follows dozens of wannabe fashion designers. Every week they are given a challenge and made to create an outfit that meets the guidelines for their model. The winner of this reality TV show is given a fashion design contract and many well-known fashion designers have come from this show.

What Not to Wear

What Not To Wear takes an ordinary individual who has terrible fashion sense and treats them to a fashion surprise. They are given fashion advice, have their existing wardrobe trashed and given $5,000 to shop in New York City. By the end of the show this individual is sporting the latest fashion that looks great on them and had their life completely transformed because of the show.

As our lives grow more stressful, vacations have become almost a necessity. Unfortunately, they can also be expensive. Taking some time to write a complete budget–including all those extras that come along with traveling–can help you stay on track. Using a prepaid card like the Reach Card prepaid visa is the best way to ensure you stick to your budget.

Clothing and Luggage and Tours! Oh My!

First thing’s first – determine how much money you can comfortably spend on your vacation. Use that figure to help build a better budget. Don’t make the mistake of just including the big ticket items in your budget. Airfare, hotel fees and rental cars are expensive; however be sure to include money for meals, souvenirs, luggage, toiletries, clothing items and ‘mad’ money. By developing a complete budget, you are far more likely to remain on track and come home from your vacation well rested and not stressed out because you spend too much money.

Now You’ve Got Control

Remember, even the best laid plans can fall apart if you don’t pay attention to them. Consider using the Reach Card prepaid visa during your next vacation. A card like this is one of the best ways to control your budget. You can easily load the money you want to spend on the card and rest comfortable with the knowledge that you can’t spend what you don’t have.

Fashion design is an interesting profession. Like other industries that feature creative minds, such as music and the visual and performing arts, it can be difficult to become a successful designer. However, some have found a number of pathways to living the American designer’s dream.

Many people are aware of the major success stories. With the popularity of reality television, it makes perfect sense for reality television shows to translate to an area that is as visually appealing as fashion design. Project Runway is the popular example here, which features a number of successful American designers – win or lose.

Getting started on this goal isn’t as difficult as you might think. The best way to begin is to look at educational prospects. Even if you have a full-time job, you can peruse the accredited online degrees that are offered in regards to fashion. You could pursue a fashion-related degree in design, or management, both representing great opportunities in the industry.

Look into other areas that will bolster your foundation when living the designer’s dream. Maybe you can get a position related to fashion as you study, which is certainly made easier with online education. Even writing a fashion blog that could develop a readership over time – showcasing your insights, and even fashions – could bolster your resume.

Living the American designer’s dream can be accomplished. It might be a difficult journey, but there are many opportunities in the fashion world for a successful career. Perhaps you may find a route to becoming a fashion designer. Get started if you are serious about your career aspirations in fashion.

Though it might not be surprising to those in the know, many of the fashion trends that are hot for adults also tend to trickle down to children’s fashion. Of course, in most cases, it is seen a little differently in children’s clothes than in adults, but the same influences are there.

This year is not different than others in this respect. Bright colors are the go to for this spring, whether you are a man or woman, adult or child. Bright on bright is all the rage for children’s fashions. For example, finding a bright orange shirt with bright blue accenting is going to be a popular option this year. Along with this, the 70′s trend that is permeating the adult fashions is also hot for kids. Peasant shirts and fun designs are in this spring, and when you add the bright colors to this as well, you are sure to show that you are in the fashion know how.

The “prep” look is still in for boys, with a bit of a twist. Again, the brighter colors are making a show. Adding in a little bit of casual is important with this look. In the past, the prep look has been almost uptight in its showing, but this year, it gets a more laid back revision. With brighter colors it is a more fun look for many kids. This is something that the fashion designers have seen as a way to try to get the kids more into the look than in the past.

Making sure that your kids are in style is important for many parents. Many times this is simply as easy as watching the fashion trends for adults. Looking at the children’s fashions this year, this is more obvious than in the past. You can’t go wrong with bright colors and 70′s styles this year, both for kids and adults.

Reality television shows have taken the world by storm over the last few years, and they are just gaining momentum and popularity as time goes on. There are so many different types of reality tv shows today that it can be difficult to say what the most popular or best out there today.

It seems like every time there is something new going on in the world, television producers are making a new reality television show about it. Every time a regular tv show becomes extremely popular, there has to be a reality spin off of it. Take Desperate Housewives, for example. This show became very popular, partially because of the catty behavior of the women, and the crazy situations that their relationships put them in. After the initial popularity of the show, we started to see a new phenomena. The Real Housewives series. Each new season has a new city in the spotlight, with new women showing off their lifestyles. These are always higher class, women who, realistically, have more money than most of us could ever dream of. Many of them are not even housewives! This show has gained so much popularity that there is no end in sight.

The spin off of reality television after the popularity of a show does not stop here. Oxygen has recently announced that it will be having a reality show, similar to American Idol, for those that consider themselves “Gleeks”. This comes from the popularity of the show Glee. The winner of this new reality show will, supposedly, then win themselves a spot on the show itself. This is just the newest way to spin a popular show into a reality tv show. Though this may actually get more people watching the original show, it may also make the show much less popular, because the reality tv version becomes “more interesting” to people.

Bright colors. This is what spring is all about. Most especially in the fashion world, you will find that the brighter the colors, the better. This year, bright colors have been seen not only in the clothes, but in other areas as well. If you are looking for great ways to spice up your outfit this spring, add a little color to your makeup, your accessories, or even your hair.

So, what colors are really in? To be honest, pretty much everything is in right now, as long as it is bright and bold. There are some colors that have been seen more prevalent than others, depending on the medium.

For example, with eyeshadow, you will want to stock up on spring greens, oranges, purples, and even pinks. These are colors that traditionally scream spring, and this year is no different. Don’t tone down the colors, let them fly! Along with this, bright eye liners and mascaras are also in. For lips, you want to go with either a bright red or a fun pink.

With accessories, green and yellow are both very popular this spring. Getting your hands on a yellow handbag is a great way to accessorize your spring outfits. A bright blue belt may also be a great way to add some color, without having it stand out too much.

Hair colors this year are all about going crazy. Bright reds are extremely popular on the runway. Along with this, you will want to consider off beat colors. As long as it is not against the dress code at your job, consider something that is not normally seen as a natural hair color. If this is not permitted for your job, add in some wash away streaks of color for your next night on the town.

When talking about fashion, one thing that you must also remember is that the hair trends can change drastically each year, or even each season. Hair fashion is something that some people overlook, but those who consider themselves fashionistas should never pass by. For long hair, there are three major trends coming forward this year.

The Double Hair Knot

The double hair knot has been popular off and on for many years. This hair trend is a great way to put your hair back, simply, and still look great. Many people find it to be almost as easy as just putting your hair in a pony tail, but it has an elegance that is far beyond this. This is a style that can be worn around the house, at the office, or even out on the town for a formal event.

Bird’s Nest Bun

Seen on the catwalk through this years fashion shows already, the bird’s nest bun is a hair trend that many may find fun and funky. For many, the bird’s nest may call back to an era of housewives and tall hair. Adding a little bit of texture to your top knot or bun is a great way to pull off a classic, but fun look.

Braided Top Knot

The braided top knot is a great way to change up your normal bun. This sits higher up on the head, and since it is braided, it has a much different look. The braided top knot works well with elegant looks and evening wear, as well as office wear.

Updos are very popular this year. Those with long hair who follow the fashion trends will want to master these and other updos. Since they work well at home, on the town, or anything in between, you can’t go wrong with a new twist to a classic up do.

One of the most popular, and generally one of the most expensive, accessory items that women crave is the purse. There are many different styles of purses, and the trends change frequently. Figuring out what is in today, when it comes to purses and handbags can be more frustrating than finding out any other fashion trends. This year, everything you have ever known with purse fashions has been thrown out the window with the belt purse fashion.

In fact, for many people, this trend may make you think about a fashion no no – the fanny pack. It is quite similar, but with a much better look. In fact, the belt purse is simply a clutch purse put on a belt. At first, you may find that you are against this fashion with every fiber of your being. Many people are. You don’t want to look like granny at Disney World or the dollar store! It is so ingrained that fanny packs are horrible, and should never come within a hundred feet of anyone with fashion sense, that it may actually take some time for this trend to catch on.

The great thing aout belt purses is that you won’t have to worry about setting down your purse and forgetting it or losing it. There are belt purses that are for day wear, and even some that have been fashioned for evening wear, as well. Finding one in the color and style that you are looking for won’t take long once these hit the stores. The varieties are practically endless. As long as you stay to the fashionable belt purses and don’t actually get a fanny pack, you will be perfectly fine. Don’t let your budget tell you that a fanny pack is ok, though!

You may be surprised to learn that this years fashion trends are veering away from previous years. In the last few years, skinny, straight legged jeans and pants have become all the rage. This year is completely different. In fact, this year, extremely wide legs and even bell bottom pants have come back into style.

Many designers are using a more wide legged pant look to accentuate a more masculine look. Many women, especially in the work force, have decided that more masculine looks are a great way to go. Because of this, the designers are trying to keep up with this, with new and innovative looks. Pairing wide legged pants, that practically cover the shoes entirely, with a matching jacket can add the right kind of fashion and flair, while still looking perfect for the office.

Today’s bell bottom or flare pants are a little different than in the past. The most popular on the runways right now are not tight far down the leg. Instead, they are loose around the knee, and flare from there. Along with this, the flare hem of the pants should be, at very least, as wide as your foot. Wider is great, but if you are following the current bell bottom trend, you want to go wide.

If you want to take this trend into the realm of the 1970′s look, make sure that your pants also have a high waist. Pair it with a retro, bohemian style shirt, and you’re good to go! On the other hand, you can also go for a more modern look and make sure that they have a lower waist line. No matter which way you choose to go, flares and bell bottoms have made a come back that you won’t believe.

In some cases, the offer for a survey is made when the user first lands on the site. Other companies use the exit survey strategy. In either case, the customer must decide if they’re willing to spend a few minutes answering questions about their impression of the website.

The Benefits of Online Surveys

By using free online surveys on your website, you can find out whether your customer service group is performing to your standards. Based on your questions, you may find out where you need improvement or even discover a need that you had not yet considered. By soliciting feedback instead of waiting for e-mails from disgruntled customers, you also have a better chance of getting a balanced view of the overall level of satisfaction. This is because an angry customer is much more likely to go out of their way to complain, while a satisfied online customer may simply keep their thoughts to themselves.

Who’s Using Online Surveys?

As you surf the Web, you’ve probably come across plenty of online surveys. Companies of all sizes are catching onto this valuable market research method to interact with their clients, keep customers coming back, and attract new ones. The easiest way to add a survey to your website is to invest in survey software tools instead of trying to develop something on your own. Join the ranks of major corporations like Apple, Expedia, Papa Johns, and Microsoft by adding an online survey to your website to get a good feel for your customer’s attitudes and expectations.

An online survey can be a great tool to engage your customers and increase their level of satisfaction as proven by the major players in the ecommerce game. When will you survey your loyal customers?

When you think of bikers, you may not necessarily think of fashion. That is all about to change, as one of the big fashion trend for 2011 is biker chic. Burberry unveiled their biker chic fashion this year during fashion week in New York City. Though many say that it is just a spin off of the military look that has been popular recently, others feel that it is a fully new trend that will explode this year.

There are a few essentials to the biker chic fashion trend. First and foremost is the motorcycle jacket. The designers that are picking up this trend are coming up with new takes on the traditional motorcycle jacket. First, it doesn’t have to be plain black, as in the past. There are many motorcycle fashion jackets that come in a variety of colors. The style may vary a little bit, as well. Traditionally speaking, a motorcycle jacket is black leather with a variety of buckles and zippers. Some of these may be left off for a fashion motorcycle jacket.

Leather motocycle pants are also a must have for this fashion trend. Some designers have veered off, and instead of leather pants, they have paired leather skirts with the motorcycle jackets to add a more sophisticated look to the motorcycle chic look.

Along with the jacket and pants, motorcycle boots are a must have. As with the other aspects of this look, it has been altered a little in many cases. In fact, there are even stiletto heels that give the impression of motorcycle boots, while other designers have stayed more traditional with leather boots and lots of buckles.

Following the fashion trends this year is going to be a fun experiment for many people. The fashions are fun and crazy, and in some cases, full of leather. The thought is, you can’t go wrong with black leather!

As winter slowly comes to a close, many people are looking toward spring. Not only does spring invoke warmer weather, it also means that new fashions are coming out. Anyone who has any interest in fashion in the United States has been watching New York in February, as with every year. Fashion week is something that all designers, models, and anyone interested in the new fashions look forward to with glee.

This year, many people may be surprised with the fashions that have come down the runway. Harkening to eras gone by, the spring fashions for 2011 are very reminiscent of the 1970′s, as well as the 60′s and even a few things from the 1950′s fashions.

The bohemian look from the 1970′s is in this spring. With bead necklaces layered over vests, jumpsuits and hot pants, and straight hair, many people are taking these trends and applying them today. The housewife look from the 1960′s is back in, as well. Even for those that don’t consider themselves housewives can pull off this look with the styles of Louis Vuitton and Prada. Long, gathered skirts, known as the granny skirt, paired with a cardigan is a fun way to hearken back to the 1960′s.

When you think of days gone by, and admire the fashions of those time periods, don’t dispair. They are in style again, and there are options to pull these looks off. Wether you hit up a vintage shop, pull out the clothes in the attic, or decide to buy new designer option, you will find that pulling off the hot looks of Spring 2011 can be fun and easy. Even though the styles may be old fashioned, you don’t have to feel out of place in these great styles for spring.

In the fashion industry being over the age of 35 usually means you are retired. However, there is a relatively new reality television show featuring women over the age of 35 who are competing to become the next supermodel 35 or older. This show’s title is She’s Got the Look, and originally aired in 2008 on TV Land network. This show has already run three successful seasons and is scheduled to run a fourth season in 2011.

Throughout the season celebrity judges narrow down the cast from an original 20 until they find the one with just the right look. After the initial interviews of the 20 semi-finalists, which included displaying the contestant’s fashion knowledge and presenting oneself well, the cast is narrowed down to a final ten contestants.

Once the final ten contestants are chosen they then live in a loft together and compete in challenges. These challenges include tests of their fashion sense, photo shoots, and runway competitions. Contestants are then eliminated as time goes on. The final episode leaves two contestants remaining. In the end, one woman is the winner and goes on to become the next supermodel 35 or older.

Some of the past winners have included average women from average lives. The things that set them apart are their beauty and confidence. The first winner in 2008 was 45-year-old married mother of five from Orange County, California. During the second season the winner was 39-year-old Cindy Cohen. Cindy lives in Calabasas, California. With her son heading off to college she decided to give modeling a try and auditioned for the show, and the rest is history! The 2010 third season winner was a 38-year-old bus mechanic and married mother of two from Los Angeles, Marlin Archie.

The winners earn a modeling contract, $100,000, and a photo spread in Self magazine. The goal of this show is to prove that women over 35 are still confident, beautiful, and definitely model material!

Reality television has become a rage over the past few decades. It continues to be strong today. The fashion industry is no exception. There are many reality television shows featuring one aspect or another of the fashion industry. Some have stuck around for many, many years, while others have only managed a year or two. Some of the most popular reality television shows include fashion-based shows.

Project Runway, which is a show where designers meet several challenges throughout the season to design clothing. The show usually starts with 12 would-be designers who compete for the top design. As they participate in the challenges each week, one designer is eliminated until only three designers remain for the final runway show. This show has had eight successful seasons thus far.

America’s Next Top Model, is as you guessed it, a show featuring contestants hoping to become the next top model. This show was created and hosted by supermodel, Tyra Banks. In the first episode of each season the show begins with ten to fourteen aspiring models. Each contestant has to meet challenges along the way or be eliminated. The challenges each wanna-be model faces deals with some aspect of modeling. The models then go out on photo shoots, with the resulting photos determining who will be eliminated and who will go on.

A relatively new reality show, The Fashion Show, which airs on the Bravo network, features designers who compete against each other to create designs with limited materials and limited time. The designs are judged each week and one or more designers are eliminated. In this show, America is the judge and participates in the elimination of designers. The winner receives $125,000 and a chance for their fashion designs to be sold retail.

This is just a small sampling of the reality television shows featuring fashion. If fashion design or modeling interests you, you might find fashion-based reality television fascinating. Each of these shows offer insights and fashion tips that the general public can use as well.

The popular reality television show, Project Runway, just completed its eighth season. This American fashion reality show features 12 or more designers who have to create one or more pieces of clothing that are presented at a final runway show. The designers are presented with many different challenges throughout the run of the show and are eliminated leaving only three designers for the final challenge.

Some of the challenges designers on the show have faced through the seasons have included making designs using non-traditional items. Some of these have included recycled materials, apartment furnishings, grocery store items, edible food items, the clothing that they are currently wearing, plants and flowers, using materials from a party store. They have also been challenged to design for famous people or design a corporate fashion line. Another challenge that designers have faced was to design clothing around a theme such as “cocktail party,” “wedding gown,” “female wrestling outfit,” or “prom dress.”

During these challenges the designers are given a budget which they are to use to choose materials and accessories. They are then given a time limit in which they must complete their designs. Most of the time the designers work alone; although, some challenges require them to work in teams or work as a group. After the deadline is reached the designers have to choose their model’s hair, makeup and accessories and dress them in their design. The models then walk down the runway and the outfits are judged by a panel of judges. At this point the loser of each challenge is then eliminated from the show.

In the end the winner of the final challenge is chosen by the judges and is given $100,000 to start their own design line, are featured in Elle magazine, and have won other prizes throughout the many seasons as well. Winners are also given a chance to sell their designs on bluefly.com.

When people think of models they think of very young, thin, almost anorexic women. However, the trend has been changing. In an industry where you used to be done with your modeling career in your 20s many top models are now in their 30s, 40s, 50s, or some even older!

At 47 years old Sharon Stone became the face for Christian Dior’s “Capture” skincare line. Angie Hill was 42 when she became the face of Garnier Ultralift. In her 50s supermodel Christie Brinkley was a CoverGirl model. Linda Evangelista was the face of L’Oreal Paris in her 40s. Cindy Crawford has been working hard in the modeling industry well into her 40s with her own home furnishings line, the face for Omega watches, and even appearing on the cover of French Vogue. Another famous model is Daphne Selfe who was still a runway model in Brittain in her 80s after a 60-year modeling career.

Women are coming to understand that having children and going through the natural process of aging is not the end of the world anymore for those who have a desire to be models. Many women are even entering the world of modeling later in life. In fact there are now reality television shows featuring older models such as She’s Got the Look featuring models over the age of 35 competing for the top modeling position.

Although the types of modeling work available to models as they age changes, there is still plenty of work out there for beautiful women no matter what their age! These women and others like them have shown the world that you can be beautiful and sexy at any age. Many top modeling agencies are looking for more mature women to represent. Cosmetic companies and even clothing companies prefer women who are “real” and who can realistically represent their products. Let’s face reality, who wants to see an anti-aging cream ad featuring a 20-year-old model?

With the amazing increase in television shows due to cable and satellite, TV fashion shows are in abundance. For those who live in isolated areas, these TV fashion shows help the clueless get the guidance they need to look great.

One of the most fun TV fashion shows to hit the airwaves was “What Not to Wear.” People could nominate their friends to be on the show. It had to be a friend who was a fashion disaster. If they were chosen, the show’s team of fashion experts would take on a new client and show them the how to dress, wear their hair and do their make-up. It was often a battle of wills as the contestants tried to keep some of their old styles. However, the fashion team was expert at blending some of the old with the new to start to change the contestant’s personal vision. Ultimately, their self esteem was boosted as they saw themselves transform into a fashionable, attractive individual.

The changes were rarely extreme. The TV fashion show team knew they had to make the changes pretty subtle to get the contestant to agree to them. In some cases, the make-over had to be radical, but those were rare. Always, the friends who contacted the show were wowed and very complementary to their friend’s new look.

Other TV fashion shows that started the programming rage are “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” and “Say Yes to the Dress.” Since these shows took off, TV fashion shows are on just about every channel. Even entertainment shows make sure they have a fashion segment. This makes sense because it’s the stars that everyone wants to look like.

Stars may set the trends, but it’s the shows that feature everyday people that viewers really seem to enjoy watching the most.

The New York Fashion scene is hardly more than a dream to most of us. If you’re hoping to become the next Marc Jacobs, you’re going to need some tips for breaking into the New York Fashion scene. Not everybody is allowed into the major fashion shows in the city. It’s highly unlikely any of the power hitters will give you the time of day just because you think you’ll design the next fashion rage.

If you’ve got the creative ability to crash a party, then go for it. Just know it’s uncool to show up without something to offer. In other words, you really better have a good reason to be there. Gawkers are not allowed. Will you be wearing your latest creation? Will it really catch the power players’ eyes? Just serving yourself is not good enough. You need to really have something to offer the industry.

That’s pretty hard to pull off. The New York Fashion scene isn’t about luck. It’s about hard work, so try to get a job in the fashion industry. Try to get on with a company that is up and coming. Even an entry level job can lead to big things if the company you work for is getting some notice. A talented designer who empties the trash at a major fashion magazine is more likely to get noticed than a party crasher.

Mostly, it’s about networking. Go to the right clubs, the right restaurants. If you get that job, try to get invitations to the right parties. Become a part of the scene. Just remember that you have to have something to offer. A freeloader will not be welcomed in the New York Fashion scene. When that random meeting with someone really important happens, you need to impress them with real knowledge and vision. Do your homework and get ready to work hard. No one got there over night.

If you’re an aspiring fashion designer, you probably want to know how to get on a TV fashion show. Even though some of these reality contestants seem a little kooky, there are actually some pretty tough requirements for getting chosen. Like any program, TV fashion shows are looking for talent and skill.

When auditions are held for a TV fashion show, the casting director will likely ask for the following items. They’ll want to see at least 3 of your creations. They’ll want to see a portfolio, a resume, some form of proof that you’re in the country legally, and if an application to audition is required, they’ll need that, too.

Just claiming to be talented isn’t enough. These TV fashion shows are looking for real talent and skill. That means you need to be enrolled in a reputable fashion design school or have a work history to support being self-taught. Either way, you’ll have to demonstrate your ability to sketch your designs and actually sew them. Basically, you have to back up that creative vision you’re hoping to share with the world.

Don’t expect the experience to be as party. These shows are watched by millions of people. Of course, that’s why you want to be on a TV fashion show in the first place. You want people to see your designs and eventually buy your creations. TV seems goofy and fun, but in reality it is highly professional work. These casting directors are experts. They’ll call your bluff fast.

Most importantly, be realistic about your chances. When a reality show has a casting call, they usually do it in many cities. Not only are you competing with the people at your audition, your competing with people at other auditions. It might be best to go into it thinking of it as a learning experience instead of your ticket to stardom.

It’s rare for inexperienced fashion models to get paid for their time. Instead, many photographers and TV show producers want to compensate with TFCD. The first step in becoming an experienced fashion model is learning what this means. Basically, you are not going to get paid for your time. The plan is to give you exposure. Nothing else. TFCD is a kind of compensation where the model is given a CD of the photo shoot.

One of the first things a really good photographer will tell you is that TFCD is usually a sign of a mediocre photographer. No real professional wants all of his pictures available without his control. That CD will contain the shots that would never make print, but an inexperienced fashion model won’t know that. He or she might post some really bad work. Only an inexperienced photographer would allow that. It won’t serve the TV show or the fashion model.

This is not to say that TFCD is always bad. More than anything, a young model needs to do the research and make sure the program is legitimate. You know the old saying. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

A few other things to watch out for would be how easy it its to find info on the TV show or photographer’s production company. If the only contact info is an email address at something like gmail or yahoo, it’s probably not legitimate. There should be a website that is professional and reputable. A proper website would host its own email. A final tip would be to think about how easy it is to get an audition. If you immediately get invited to try out for a position as a fashion model, that’s probably not good. Not all exposure is good exposure. Be wise when making the choice to be a fashion model.

There’s nothing like a smart, young first lady to create a buzz in the fashion world. Just as all the old standbys were gearing up to dress her, Michelle Obama decided to help the young American designers who will be the next wave US fashion trends. The first lady is tall and lovely, so she is the perfect person to showcase any fashion designer’s talent, and she is the best American spokesperson for American style.

That being said, Michelle Obama is representing American style as the melting pot that it should be. Sometimes she’s in her J. Crew outfit. It speaks to the middle class woman who is active and practical. Sometimes, Mrs. Obama is sporting the latest styles by a young American immigrant. When she does this, she is giving a huge nod to the truism that America is the land of opportunity. American designers should be youthful and fresh. It speaks to the optimism that the country is known for. A youthful and fresh first lady has decided to take up that torch and give the fashion world a shake up.

Michelle Obama is bold and fearless. Therefore, she is not swayed by the old school big names in American designers. No matter how much Oscar de la Renta makes pissy little quips, it doesn’t help his cause. This is a first lady who is all about class, and catty cut downs from a fashion icon only boost the appeal of the new crop of visionaries.

Mrs. Obama has also been seen in foreign designer creations, but once again, they are from the new crop of creative clothing masters. All of this is in step with the President’s message of hope and change. Whether he’ll ultimately be successful won’t mean much in the fashion world. In that arena, his wife will call the shots.

One of the top TV fashion shows is Say Yes to the Dress. It will begin its sixth season this year. Certainly, there are many brides who would love to be on the show. It provides plenty of drama and entertainment, so it seems like a great way to get a little fashion exposure. If it’s something you want to do, there is an application that the producers of Say Yes to the Dress need you to fill out.

Before you start pursuing your dream to be a TV reality star, it’s important to know that Say Yes to the Dress does not pay it’s participants. They do not pay for travel, accommodations or the wedding dress either. They are simply looking for people who want to buy a wedding dress at Kleinfeld in New York, and they want to film the entire experience. There is no obligation to buy a dress, but you have to be serious about it. That means you really have to be getting married.

Here are few of the things the application asks for.
You’ll need to provide your name, address, date of birth and occupation. You’ll need to provide this for your fiance, too. They want to know who will be buying the dress, and what kind of budget you have. You’ll also have to attach a personal photo. They’ll ask you how your fiance proposed to you. They want to know if he’s coming with you to Say Yes to the Dress, and you need to give them a wedding date.

Then the questions get a little deeper. They want to know what has been the most stressful part of the wedding plans, who will come with you, and also something about you they can’t see from the picture and application. Finally, you have to be fun to watch on TV.

Don’t forget. Say Yes to the Dress has to be entertaining.

Wouldn’t it be great to become a real reality star by going from overweight to gorgeous on the Biggest Loser? Obesity is a huge problem in America, and many of us watch vicariously as contestants try to win the weight loss contest that airs every season on NBC.

Each season, The Biggest Loser has a casting call to pick the next group of contestants. Unlike many reality shows, you don’t have to show up perfect. In fact, you’ll be picked for just the opposite reason. However, this show is a competition, so The Biggest Loser is looking for competitive, outgoing, charismatic and candid people to be on the show. The casting call takes place at the NBC Studios in Burbank, California, and they expect you to be early to the call.

If you can’t make it to Burbank, you can send in a DVD that explains your personal struggle with weight, why you want to lose weight, what your daily diet is, whether you have any exercise habits, and the basic routines of your day. Tell them why you are the perfect candidate for The Biggest Loser. Like any reality TV show, this is about entertainment first, so they’re looking for people with spunk and personality.

All reality shows are looking for personality first. The audience has to like the contestants, and they want to cheer for their favorites. If you don’t think you can handle the rigorous schedule of a television series, as well as the rigorous regime it takes to lose the weight, then don’t apply.

The contestants are divided into two teams. There is the red team and the blue team. The program also will have special themes at times. They have done family competitions, Navy wives versus Marine wives, engaged couple teams, and the usual individual programs. Keep up with their website because you might fit a special edition better than a regular season.

The original Aaron Basha first opened his exclusive jewelry boutiques in London’s Famous Berkeley Square in 1906. Now one hundred years later the third generation of this talented family have boutiques all over the world with the main store being situated in Manhattan.

Famed for their baby shoes and sweet charms, their creations are sought after by mothers, mother-to be and anyone looking for icons reminiscent of childhood. The baby shoes are the most well known and are artistically designed and created with the highest quality 18k gold, platinum and french enamel. These playful charms are a delight and sure to to become family treasures to be passed down from generation to generation.

Stepping into the 680 Madison Avenue Boutique is akin to stepping back into time of days gone by where the magic of childhood abounds. The likely hood of meeting Aaron Basha himself is very good and he is not there, you are sure to meet one of the talent family members who are also involved in these exquisite childhood icons.

There is no better way to celebrate the birth of a child or grandchild than with one of these gorgeous creations. Whether it be a gift from a husband to his wife, or from a dear family relative or friend, this will be an investment that will be cherished for years to come. Choose from the adorable selection of jewel encrusted baby shoes for which they are famous or quaint little ladybugs, frogs, ducks or teddy bears. The choice will be a difficult one to make, but once made, you can be sure it will be well received and treasured by the new mom.

There is nothing more glamorous than becoming a fashion model. These beauties are at the cutting edge of fashion and design, and many are so good at what they do, they become celebrities who star in movies, host reality shows, and hob nob with the Hollywood elite. Becoming a fashion model is more about looks than skill.

When fashion designers create the year’s newest trends, they are looking for people who will fit the style. If skinny jeans are in, then tall and thin models will be the target. If the designer is showcasing plus sizes, then they’ll look for larger fashion models. It’s all about who will make the clothes look the best, not the other way around. Sometimes there are open auditions for fashion models, and the call will describe the kind of model the designer or photographer is looking for. However, the people who are getting the really glamorous gigs are being represented by a talent agency. In that case, an aspiring fashion model should start with the agencies.

Another kind of model that is in demand is the commercial model. Stars and celebrities are often these kinds of models. The person wearing the clothes is the focus because that person speaks to a specific market. It might be easier to become a commercial model than a fashion model. Everyday people are used to sell everyday products. These models are housewives, students, firemen, teachers, and just about any other kind of person you can think of. Many of them become very successful at it.

Just like fashion model auditions, companies needing commercial models will usually post a call that asks for a specific kind of individual. Modeling agencies are looking for these kinds of individuals, too. In this case, it’s more about who you really are instead of who you hope to be. It might be the best place to start a modeling career.

Do you consider yourself someone who only wears the latest styles? Do you keep your eyes on all the fashion magazines to see what will be the hottest trends of the next season? Are you shopping for the latest lines of clothing and jewelry that you see your favorite stars wearing on the red carpet? If so, you probably would love to know what the latest trends in jewelry will be this year. You might want to know which designers will be hot in the industry and on the streets. Will it be Christian Audigier, Leslie Greene or possibly Carl F. Bucherer? Read on and you can discover for yourself what will be hot in jewelry in 2011.

Some of the trends to keep an eye on this year so you can stay ahead of the game include both fine jewelry and costume jewelry. Keep an eye out for rose-cut diamonds. This is one of those trends that is now repeating itself. It was first in fashion as far back as the 1500s and they often resemble the petals of a rose which gives designers a lot of leeway in the design. Other fine jewelry trends to keep an eye on are South Sea pearls, yellow gold and richly saturated gemstones.

When looking at trends in costume jewelry, there are quite a few to consider and keep an eye on. High end costume jewelry had made resurgence lately and can be as expensive as fine jewelry at times. Look for big, bold metals that draw the eye right to them because of their size and embellishment. Also keep an eye on anything antique, retro, or vintage. These pieces are quite the rage and are only getting more popular. Finally, look for pieces that are tribal or ethnic in nature. If you want to be stylish in 2011, you now have the jewelry styles to get you there.

There are some things that are just uniquely American, and the most popular American fashion designers help keep that style alive all over the world. Needless to say, there are few American fashion designers who have been popular for decades. They truly define American style.

One of the first American fashion designers to come to mind is Ralph Lauren. His Polo Collection is timeless. It always represents the rugged individual with high quality and class. The Polo button down seems to never go out of style. The denim and leather look is about as American as it comes. He is famous worldwide, but he continues to be a top seller in department stores all over America. He also has about 35 boutiques throughout the United States. His brand is also found in other products like home decor and bed and bath products.

Calvin Klein has been a constant presence on the American fashion designer roster for many, many years. He started out as a coat designer, but soon become famous for his very sexy jeans. In fact, many will remember a young Brooke Shields wearing a pair of the great designer’s jeans. It was a total scandal because that’s all she was wearing! Today, the sexy image of gorgeous Americans is plastered on every billboard and magazine in the world. It’s Calvin Klein’s underwear collection. Always changing, and always interesting, he continues to be a popular American fashion designer.

Vera Wang is an American designer who is best known for her wedding dresses. She’s dressed the stars and been featured on top wedding shows. Her brand is often mentioned in top American movies, too, like “Sex and the City.” This is a fashion designer who helped make getting married very cool and trendy.

Donna Karan is the creator of DKNY, and she too, has risen to be one of America’s top fashion designers.

Styles are always changing, and that can get really expensive for the person who wants to be up to the minute with their looks. The good news is that there are a few lasting fashion mainstays that can be worn season after season. These fashion mainstays will help keep the budget in line without sacrificing style.

Jean shorts have been popular since the original “Dukes of Hazard” television showed aired in the 1980s. Daisy Duke make the short cut-off look a standard summer style. To wear them as short as she did, you really need long legs. Not everyone is so lucky, so the jean short has changed in many ways to fit many styles, but it never goes out of style.

For the ladies, the black skirt is a must have in the wardrobe. It is such a simple, yet versatile piece of clothing. It can be dressed up with a nice blouse and heels to be the perfect outfit for the office, and then the same skirt can be paired with a t-shirt or sweater and some flats for a causal day of shopping.

Another fashion mainstay for women is the pencil skirt. It is a tight fitting, streamlined piece that can be elegant or casual, very much like the black skirt. Because of its slender fit, a little walking practice will be needed to make sure you can move around in it with ease.

Flare leg pants. are almost always in fashion in some form or fashion. Their most practical use is for wearing boots. In the 1970s, the bell bottom was a hot fashion extreme based on the flare leg pant. The nice thing about a little flare is that it draws attention away from the hips and mid-section, and that’s not such a bad thing for some people.

Janice Dickinson was born in Brooklyn, New York to a Belorussian father and a Polish mother and was raised in Florida. She moved to New York City in the early 1970′s to try modeling, but was deemed “too ethnic looking” so she moved to Paris. The French loved Janice and she became popular in the European fashion industry. In 1978, she moved back to New York City and worked steadily for the next several years. She was the highest paid model of that era, making four times the standard rate. Janice signed with Ford Models but eventually moved to work with upstart agency Elite Model Management. At the age of fourteen, she began modeling locally for department stores and newspaper circulars. At the age of fifteen, she entered the Elite Model Management Look of the Year, but did not win. When she was sixteen, she began dating John Casablancas, the head of Elite Model Management, and he left his wife to move in with her. The affair did not last and she broke things off with him. Towards the late 1980′s, she began appearing in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit and Vogue magazine. These spreads were the catalyst to launch her career and led to several high profile relationships as well as rumors of hard partying and diva like behaviour. There were also lawsuits filed accusing both parties of abuse and slander. Stephanie eventually married mogul Peter Brant in 1995.

Thomas Jacob Hilfiger was born in Elmira, New York to an Irish-American family. He is one of nine children. He attended Elmira Free Academy for high school and then moved on to retail work at age eighteen instead of furthering his education. Tommy would also customize jeans and bell bottom pants to resale. At age eighteen, he opened his own retail store, which closed seven years later when the store went bankrupt. He continued to supply his chain of ten other specialty stores with custom fashions. Tommy moved to New York City soon after with his wife Susie and was offered design assistant positions from several well known design houses. He turned them all down. He founded the Tommy Hilfiger Corporation in 1984. He went public in 1992. By the mid 1990′s, he had expanded into woman’s clothing, eyewear, fragrance, jnewelry, and home products. He introduced his menswear collection and was recognized in 1997 as Menswear Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designers America.

In 2005, Tommy was involved in the design series “The Cut” which tracked sixteen contestants competing for a design deal with Tommy Hilfiger. In 2006, Tommy sold his company due to declining revenue. In 2010, Phillips-Van Heusen bought the company for a reported $10 billion. Tommy Hilfiger has been criticized for labeling his clothing as “Made In The USA”. His clothing is actually made in the United States territory of Saipan, which does not follow United States labor laws. The company was among twenty clothing companies sued in a class action lawsuit and eventually settled.

Tommy has four children with his first wife Susie, and one son with his second wife Dee. HIs daughter Ally, appeared on the MTV show Rich Girls and his son was signed to the record label owned by super producer Swiss Beatz.
